Forgiveness, By Sandy Andrew

August 22nd, 2007

The Memory Have you ever experienced an event in your life that you can’t seem to forget? It agitates you and angers you when you recall and dwell on the memory. Perhaps someone did one or more of the following to you?

stole from you misled you cheated you in some way abused you lied to you And you want to get back at them — period! You cannot seem to forget the event. The anger and hate is rising and rising within you. Ask yourself the following:

Is it your mind that won’t let you forget the event? Do you really want to forget the event? Or do you enjoy your thoughts of anger, hate, and thoughts of revenge regarding the event?

The Choice of Revenge or Forgiveness Fear, anger, hate, and revenge are the most destructive forms of energy in which a person can become embroiled. These negative emotions can dominate your thinking and can lead you to commit negative acts. Revenge is a very dangerous act to commit. If you commit an unjustifiable negative act in your life, you in turn will become part of that negative cycle. What goes around comes around, no matter who you are in this world. We see this time and time again in the media. By giving in to your fear, anger, and hate you ultimately will be no different from those who wronged you in the first place.

By allowing yourself to forgive the person and the event, you may find yourself in a more comfortable and content state of mind. By letting go of the need for revenge, which itself is fed by your hate and anger, you will naturally start focusing on the things in life that truly matter to you and which hopefully bring you a sense of fulfillment. When a person is pursuing the fulfillment of their own life, they will be content and comfortable with life: no matter how physically hectic it can be!

You have a choice of thoughts regarding revenge or forgiveness:

negative or positive destructive or productive irrational or logical revenge or forgiveness You make this choice; no one else does it for you. There may be times in your life when you have to defend yourself, family, or even your country; nonetheless, the decisions made during your life path are yours. They can be positively radiant and fulfilling, or they can become depressingly negative and hateful. The choice is yours.

How to Forgive Some people struggle with the concept of releasing anger toward someone who has wronged them. The problem is that they can become so entrenched in a viewpoint, they simply don’t know any different.

Here are ten ways to help you move towards contentment and forgiveness in your life and move away from toxic emotions. Go to a quite place, preferably in your home, and relax for five to ten minutes and go through the following steps in your mind.

Calm your emotions through deep breathing. Analyze the event from a logical objective perspective. Seek the truth and the facts. Acknowledge the facts of what happened. Know that your were mistreated. Know that you were right. Let the memory fade into history. Let go of the anger and hateful energy that surround you. Focus your thoughts on those who care about you. Focus your thoughts on the things you like. By performing these simple steps on a daily basis, you should gradually notice that you feel more content and at peace with yourself. By focusing on those who love you and the things in life that you like, you will attract positive energy into your life … and that’s a good thing.

High-Fructose Corn Syrup: The Obesity Link by Cheryl Tallman

August 15th, 2007

Playing outside in the hot days of summer will work up a thirst. While water is the best thirst quencher and should be the first choice you offer your children, sometimes it’s nice to have a sweeter treat to enjoy. Choosing 100% real fruit juice for your children is the best choice and diluting it 50% with water is recommended.

When shopping for juices, you may notice that high quality, 100% juice is expensive. Many companies offer cheaper juices that taste like the real thing, with as much as 95% less of the real stuff. They mimic the taste of real juice by adding artificial flavors and high-fructose corn syrup. High fructose corn syrup (HFCS) is a potent sweetener and an unhealthy ingredient. In fact, in the past few years, a mountain of studies provides evidence of a significant link between HCFS and the increases in obesity.

So how does high fructose corn syrup make people fatter? Even though it is sweet like sugar, HFCS is digested much differently. Research shows that HFCS goes directly to the liver, releasing instructions for the body to store fat. This elevates triglyceride (fat in blood) levels and cholesterol levels. It is also believed that HFCS may slow fat burning and cause weight gain. Still other research indicates that it does not stimulate insulin production, which usually creates the body’s sense of being full. Therefore, people may eat more than they should. While there is no single cause to the enormous rise in obesity, it is clear to many healthcare professionals that HFCS is part of the problem.

High-fructose corn syrup is a very common ingredient in toddlers’ and children’s foods, and it is especially common in juice and drinks. HFCS is so prevalent in processed foods that you may find it impossible to avoid. Read ingredient labels carefully to try to limit your family’s consumption of this unhealthy ingredient.

Advice from the heart, by Dalai Lama

August 15th, 2007

There are certain types of suffering, such as the suffering associated with birth, sickness, old age and death that cannot be avoided. The only thing we can do is reduce the fear they instil in us. But there are many other problems in the world, from marital quarrels to the most devastatig wars, that could be avoided if only we adopted a sane and healthy attitude.

Wonderful Watermelon, by Cheryl Tallman

August 12th, 2007

Eating watermelon is not just fun, it is healthy too! Watermelon is chock full of lycopene, a powerful antioxidant that fights free radicals which are highly reactive molecules that damage cell membranes, attack DNA and cause disease. Tomatoes are often associated with lycopene, but watermelon contains higher levels than fresh tomatoes.

Watermelon can also help maintain cardiovascular health. Watermelon has amino acids, citrulline and arginine, that help maintain the arteries and blood flow. A two-cup serving of watermelon is also an excellent source of Vitamins A, B6 and C. These vitamins provide optimal eye health, help the body cope with anxiety and panic, and bolster your immune system’s defenses.

At the market Check the watermelon out. Look for a firm, symmetrical watermelon with no bruises, cuts, or dents. Lift it. The watermelon should be heavy for its size. The underside of the watermelon will have a creamy yellow spot from where it sat on the ground and ripened in the sun.

Pre-cut watermelon Available in many markets, this is a nice option for a small family or when a whole watermelon is too much. Keep the cut surface of a melon covered with plastic wrap and refrigerate. It will stay fresh for three to four days.

Storage A whole watermelon can be stored at room temperature until ready to cut up.

Cubes of watermelon Place in covered container and refrigerate immediately. It will stay fresh for three to four days.

Preparation Wash, slice, or cube and enjoy.

11 Marketing Mistakes and how to avoid them, by Susan Carter

1: Sinking a Fortune Into an Unproven Product

Is your business idea built on market research or a hunch? Entrepreneurs often fall in love with their products or services before they determine if there’s a real market, and they throw fistfuls of money into the venture. If you, your spouse, your uncle, and your neighbor think you’ve got a winning idea, that’s simply not enough qualified input to run to the bank and drain your savings account!

2: Believing That “If You Build It, They Will Come”

Do you think you have a product or service that will practically sell itself? Trust me - you don’t.

There is a misconception among small business owners that, with the right product or service, your customers will simply “find” you when you open your doors for business. Whether you have a physical storefront on a corner lot in the busiest part of downtown, or a graphically pleasing online storefront offering easy access to your hot products and services, your customers will not find you if you do not market to them.

The day you open for business is the day you put on your “marketer’s hat” and never take it off. You must consistently move product, or schedule service time. To stay in business you must profit. To profit you must sell. To sell you must market.

The good news is that, with a marketing strategy, you take the control out of your potential customers’ hands and put it into your own. If you have a product that will “practically sell itself,” then your marketing job will be easy. Just remember that the job must still be done.

3: Trying to Reinvent the Wheel

Marketing is an age-old practice with some very basic principles. Yet, I’m sure you’ve read many marketing information products that stress the importance of being innovative and creative with your marketing efforts. It’s easy to get caught up in the innovation process and forget that the real focus should be on results.

4: Over-Preparing and Doing Nothing

The fear of failure can be powerful. So powerful that we do everything we can think of to prevent it. Yet, there is a point at which we are so busy preparing, organizing, and researching to prevent failure that we never get around to the actual marketing of the business. Here are two things to remember; first, activity is not productivity. And second, in order to sell a million of something, you have to sell the first one.

So, go ahead. Fail a little. It will make your eventual successes even sweeter.

5: Boredom

When I was working for an ad agency many years ago, I had one client that was running an extremely successful ad campaign. After about six months, I received a phone call from the client. He wanted to develop an entirely new campaign. When I asked, “why?” he simply said, “I’m bored with the one we have.” What?

That client may have had the money to spend on a new campaign due to “boredom” but you and I usually don’t. Yet, I’ve often seen my small business clients switch promotions for the same reason. This is detrimental to your business! “Losing money” is a reason. “Boredom” is not.

6: Relying on Networking to Generate Sales Leads

Joining the Chamber of Commerce and schmoozing at association meetings can put you in contact with vendors and possible joint venture partners, and will be invaluable exposure for you as a community supporter - but it will rarely generate substantial sales leads.

Everyone else who attends these “meet and greet” assemblies is there to do the same thing you are. You may be able to make some valuable contacts for future ventures and promotions, but one-on-one networking is time-consuming and results are unpredictable.

7: Doing What Your Competitors Do

It’s important to be aware of what your competitors are offering, but do not let it dictate the strategy you use for your own business.

If your competitor wants to be the low price leader, let him. Don’t try to become the “lower price” leader. Chances are this will lead you to financial problems because it will thrust you into an ugly price war. If your competitor wants to tout low prices, then you focus on value. Bargain hunters don’t necessarily want the lowest price. They want the best value. Make what you have to offer something of value.

8: Not Targeting a Specific Market

If you believe your market is “everybody,” you will struggle to attract people who will buy from you. The value of target (niche) marketing is one of the toughest sells I make to my clients. They understand the logic of it, but the “fear of losing a potential customer” gets the best of them.

Think of your business as part of a person’s support group. It’s logical to say, “Everybody needs a support group so my business should attract everyone.” But, will it? People - your customers - want to go to a support business that understands their specific concerns, needs, and wants. Make sure you are that business by targeting a niche market.

9: Targeting a Market You Can’t Reach or One That Can’t Afford You

Targeting a niche market is the smartest way to market. Yet, targeting a market that is too specific will limit your ability to succeed long term. For example, a market that might be too specific would be: female pilots under the age of 35 who fly only New York to London flights. That’s a pretty narrow market to sustain your business in the long term unless you can capture the entire market with a product or service that has a high profit point and customers need to use or replace it often.

In that same vein, a market that is begging for the service or product you have but cannot afford it will also be a business impossible to sustain. Never compete for someone’s rent money. Your target market must have the means to buy your products and services.

10: Focusing On Acquiring New Customers Instead of Promoting to Current or Previous Customers

When you first start a business you have little choice but to focus on gaining new customers. The cost of finding those new customers can be expensive, which is one reason it is so important to really target a specific niche. However, once you’ve made just one sale, you’re ready to start looking at other marketing options. That little goldmine of proven buyers available to you “on the cheap” is already yours in the form of current and previous customers. Any respected marketing guru, past or present, online or offline, will tell you that the biggest asset your company has is your customer base.

11: Not Systematically Following Up on Leads

The least expensive part of business is making the sale. The most expensive is generating leads - finding the people who are interested in what you have. Once you find people who express an interest in what you have to offer - whether they buy from you or not - you MUST develop a follow up system that will keep marketing to those interested prospects. A person who has expressed interest in your products and services is far more likely to eventually buy from you than someone who did not respond at all!

Taking Care of Your Skin while Dieting, By Dr. Lisa Benest, MD

August 11th, 2007

Now that you are well on your road to a slimmer, healthier you, make sure that your diet doesn’t negatively affect your skin condition. Healthy skin, like any organ, is often a reflection of diet and lifestyle. New research shows that the best way to keep your skin healthy, soft, and supple is to give it the right nutrients and then to protect it with a shielding lotion that significantly reduces the loss of natural oils and moisture.

Recommended by dermatologists, shielding lotions are a new kind of lotion based on years of research into how the skin works. The body naturally makes a protective layer on the skin to prevent outside irritants from harming the skin and to keep natural oils and moisture locked in to avoid aging and dry skin.

New skin cells are constantly formed to replace old or damaged ones, but if we deprive the body of the right nutrients while dieting, the skin starts to lose its ability to renew these cells. It also loses moisture and elasticity. Natural oil production decreases, inhibiting the skin’s ability to protect against evaporation. This results in the appearance of dry, scaly skin and of fine lines and age spots. Just when you can fit into that cute little outfit, your skin looks dull and dry.

The biggest nutritional mistake made while dieting is cutting out essential fatty acids (EFAs). EFAs not only support the cardiovascular, immune, and reproductive and nervous systems, but they also enable the body to create new cells, repair those that are damaged, and get rid of toxins. Studies have shown EFAs to be effective against dry skin even in the most severe conditions. The great news for dieters is that EFAs are also pivotal in weight loss. EFA supplementation alone has enabled people to lose weight after years of unsuccessful dieting. So, you’re in luck. The one dietary change that will help you lose weight is also the best internal dry skin care treatment.

Environmental toxins, soaps, and chemicals take their toll on our skin every day. In addition to feeding your skin from the inside, you also have to protect it from the outside. Once the protective outer layer of your skin is compromised damage can occur. A shielding lotion replenishes the protective layer of the skin and allows your skin to use all that good nutrition to produce healthy glowing skin — the perfect complement to your slim and healthy body.

Complete

Facing the world, I conquer every field Daring every challenge, I have no fears Indifferent to the worries, no room for defeat Blissful, in delight, I feel complete

Round like a circle, full in its shape Whole a form, intact in its make Bold, I stand, as the encounters elapse And you wrap my corpse, with your warm embrace

Red like a rose, an aroma sweet I blush to your presence, every heart-felt beat Firm, I fall, as you hold me close And I command all time to rest and pause

Inside you remain, as you touch me deep Every part of me takes on cry and weep As I announce to mankind my love to you Overwhelmed by the gift, of destiny due

I feel you here, an age in time Leading my years, the days of mine

Fifty Years Time by Amy Leamam

August 3rd, 2007

So much is always said for youth and Spring, But age and Winter can be glorious things. What wisdom will come to me in fifty years That could save me so many tiny tears. My movements will become less fluent, unsure, My memory no longer pristine and pure. I will live life and live it well. I shall have hilarious, funny tales to tell. The lines and wrinkles that will shatter my face, I hope will give it a calm, stately grace. I shall look forward, rather than back, And keep in mind what I have, not what I lack. Would I trade what’s to come for what I have now, Erase the upcoming wrinkles from my brow? Not for all the money, or all the gold, Or all the diamonds the world does hold. There is nothing else I wish to be, Except to grow old and wrinkly. My aunt has these features, as you can see, So she is what I expect to be. When I look in the mirror in fifty years time, There will I be. Old age is no crime.
